Daniel & Ashley — A Foggy-to-Golden Session at Jones Lake
Some love stories begin in the most ordinary moments — a bus ride, a familiar route, a glance that becomes a habit.
For Daniel and Ashley, everything started back in their college days. Daniel would always see her during their daily bus ride home from school. She stood out to him instantly, but like many of us, he didn’t quite know how to make the first move. Luckily, fate had a plan. A mutual friend eventually introduced them… and the rest, as they say, is the beginning of something beautiful.
Fast forward to today, and I had the honor of documenting their love story — a session I’ve been dreaming of shooting for years.
The Location: Jones Lake, Hope
Jones Lake has always been on my photography bucket list. The combination of mountains, water, and dramatic skies makes it a dream setting for a love story. When we arrived, the weather didn’t seem promising at all. A light drizzle started to fall, and thick fog wrapped the mountains, hiding everything we had hoped to see.
But sometimes magic takes patience.
Just 20 minutes later, the clouds began to shift. The sun broke through. And suddenly, the lake transformed — the mountains appeared, the water brightened, and the entire scene felt like it was blessing this moment for Daniel and Ashley.
The Shoot: Natural, Candid, and Editorial
For this session, I used only natural light — letting the environment shape the tones and mood. The fog, the softness of the sun, the reflections on the lake… everything worked together effortlessly.
My approach was a mix of:
- Candid moments capturing real emotion
- Editorial-inspired poses with intention
- Thoughtfully framed compositions to highlight both the couple and the landscape
But honestly, Jones Lake is one of those places where you can shoot in any direction and still create something stunning.
A Session to Remember
What started with drizzle and fog turned into golden, glowing light — the kind of conditions photographers dream about. And watching Daniel and Ashley share quiet laughs, warm embraces, and genuine moments made the experience even more meaningful.
This session wasn’t just a photoshoot.
It was a story of timing, courage, and beautiful surprises — both in love and in nature.
